Pilot Training
In 1988, following a world-wide competition, CAE Electronics Ltd. selected EL-MAR's eye-tracking technology for their Fiber-Optics-Head-Mounted-Display simulators. In this application, data from the eye-tracker is used to control the location of the high resolution inset (area-of interest) in the display. Since 1990 EL-MAR has provided CAE Electronics with eye-tracking systems for projects in Europe, the Far-East and North America.
In 1994, the U.S. Air Force selected EL-MAR's technology to explore the use of eye-tracking in pilot-training. Following an intensive development program with scientists at Armstrong Laboratories EL-MAR developed systems that are used to train F-16 pilots. Eye-tracking systems for other pilot training platforms are in advanced stages of development.
The video below shows a short training segment in an air-flight simulator. The intersection of the horizontal and vertical lines indicates the pilot's point-of-gaze. Press play to view the video.
